Privacy policy

Privacy Policy

Amphibian and Reptile Conservancy, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, (“we”, “us” or “our”) respects your privacy.   Accordingly, we have adopted this Privacy Policy (the “Policy”) to govern and communicate to you our data collection and usage related to your use of our websites, including ARCprotects.org (the “ARC website”).  By using the ARC website, you consent to our Terms of Use as well the data practices described in this Policy.

Collection of Your Personal Information

We collect personal information about you when you visit our website and you voluntarily provide us with that information.   For example, we may request personal information from you, such as your name, email address, mailing address, phone number, billing and credit card information, and any other information you voluntarily provide, for example, to access a password-protected website, join a mailing list, or complete a payment transaction.

In addition, we may collect your personal information when you visit our website and navigate our electronic content.  For example, the ARC website may use “cookies” to help you personalize your online experience.  If you personalize the ARC website pages, or register with the ARC website or services, a cookie helps us to recall your specific information on subsequent visits. This simplifies the process of recording your personal information, such as billing addresses, shipping addresses, and so on. When you return to the same ARC website, the information you previously provided can be retrieved, so you can easily use the features that you customized.  You have the ability to accept or decline cookies. Most Web browsers automatically accept cookies, but you can usually modify your browser setting to decline cookies if you prefer. If you choose to decline cookies, you may not be able to fully experience the interactive features of the ARC website.

Finally, if you receive emails from us, we collect data on your responses, including opens and clicks.

We will not share your personal information with third parties except as set forth below under “Sharing Personal Information with Third Parties.”

Collection of Non-Personal Information

When you visit the ARC website, we may automatically collect and store information sent by your web browser, such as your IP addresses (i.e., the Internet address of your computer), in server logs. We also collect standard information about your computer (such as your web browser and operating system) and about your usage of our website (such as pages visited, length of visit, and search queries). This information, which does not identify you personally, is aggregated and used to help diagnose problems and suggest points for improving parts of our website.

Use and Retention of Your Personal Information

We collect and use your personal information to provide and improve services we deliver to you. We may use your personal information to deliver customized content and to inform you of other services available from us, including programs, events or volunteer opportunities, or to request your support.

We retain your personal information as long as necessary to accomplish these purposes and dispose of your personal information in accordance with our organization-wide records retention and disposition schedule.  Information concerning these records retention and disposition schedules may be obtained by contacting us as listed below.

Sharing Personal Information with Third Parties

We do not sell, rent, lease, or provide your personal information to other entities. We may share data with trusted third parties necessary to send emails, process payments, or provide other services.  We may store your data on servers provided by third party hosting vendors with whom we have contracted.   All such third parties are prohibited from using your personal information except to provide these services to us, and they are required to maintain the confidentiality of your information.

We may disclose your personal information, without notice, if required to do so by law or in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to: (a) conform to the requirements of the law or comply with legal process served on us or the ARC website; (b) protect and defend our rights or property; and/or (c) act under exigent circumstances to protect the personal safety of users of the ARC website, or the public.

Security of your Personal Information

We have implemented and maintained reasonable physical, technical, and administrative procedures to safeguard and secure all information we collect online against loss, misuse, or alteration of the information under our control.  For example, when personal information (such as a credit card number) is transmitted to other websites, it is protected through the use of encryption, such as the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) protocol.

Personal information provided by you can be accessed only by authorized individuals using industry standard firewalls and password protection systems.

We strive to take appropriate security measures to protect against unauthorized access to or alteration of your personal information. Unfortunately, no data transmission over the Internet or any wireless network can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. As a result, while we strive to protect your personal information, you acknowledge that: (a) there are security and privacy limitations inherent to the Internet which are beyond our control; and (b) security, integrity, and privacy of any and all information and data exchanged between you and us through this Site cannot be guaranteed.  In the event of a data breach, ARC will comply with all applicable laws and notice requirements.

Children’s Privacy

We do not want to, and do not knowingly, collect information from children.  Do not provide any personal information unless you are at least 13 years of age, and please caution your children not to provide any.   If a child under 13 has provided personal information, a parent or guardian may alert us by contacting us as listed below, and we will, subject to applicable law, use commercially reasonable efforts to delete it from our database.
