A Georgia native who has been a naturalist since she could walk, Katie has always been fascinated with the natural world. After receiving her bachelor’s degree in Ecology from the University of Georgia, she worked a variety of seasonal jobs across the country, from the fjords of Alaska to the streams in Puerto Rico. She pursued a M.S. in Coastal, Marine, and Wetland Studies at Coastal Carolina University while studying the spatial ecology of Loggerhead Shrikes. Her grassland songbird research led her to a position as a Private Lands Biologist in the panhandle of Florida with Quail Forever. Prior to joining ARC, she worked with the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service along the upper Texas Coast. She is thrilled to be back in the Southeast, working in the systems near and dear to her heart. Private lands conservation combines her love of public outreach with science-informed decision making. Her position with ARC involves leading a team of Private Lands Biologists across the Southeast to implement habitat restoration activities on private agricultural lands.
