Job Description
ARC is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated individual to fill the role of Strategic Coordinator for the Collaborative to Combat the Illegal Trade in Turtles (CCITT). CCITT was formed in 2018 with the mission of advancing efforts to better understand, prevent, and eliminate the illegal collection and trade of North America’s native turtles. It is composed mostly of state and federal, and tribal agency biologists and law enforcement, with additional members from academia and non-governmental organizations. This pivotal position will focus on facilitating the implementation of CCITT’s strategic priorities and supporting essential administrative efforts. The Strategic Coordinator will work remotely, coordinating with CCITT and ARC leadership. Join us in our mission to safeguard the future of North America’s native turtles by combating the illegal trade that threatens their survival.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build Capacity of Law Enforcement: Work closely with the Law Enforcement Working Group to enhance law enforcement’s capability to combat the illegal trade in turtles through training and resource development.
  • Data Management: Collaborate with the Research and Data Working Group to gather, analyze, and manage critical data related to the illegal trade in turtles, filling gaps and facilitating partnerships to enhance data utility.
  • Demand Reduction: Manage initiatives aimed at reducing the demand for illegally traded turtles, working with the Human Dimensions Working Group and consultants to implement targeted strategies and interventions.
  • Sustained Funding: Collaborate with the Leadership Board to manage funding effectively, explore sustainable funding opportunities, and implement fundraising strategies to support CCITT’s work.
  • Administrative Support: Attend to administrative responsibilities and leadership of the CCITT, including managing partnerships, scheduling and hosting meetings, responding to inquiries, and ensuring effective communication and information sharing with stakeholders.

Expectations/Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in a related field or equivalent experience in wildlife conservation, project management, or related disciplines. Knowledge of or experience in combating wildlife trafficking is beneficial.
  • Minimum of three years of demonstrated experience in program management, with a strong background in conservation preferred. Previous experience in working (collaborating) with government agencies is sought after.
  • Technical awareness or understanding in data acquisition and management, including web and social media scraping and use of R.
  • Involvement in hiring and supervising consultants, staff, and interns.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple, and sometimes disparate priorities, and make progress on strategic initiatives
  • Ability to work independently, demonstrating responsibility, time-management, problem-solving capabilities, and leadership skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills to share information broadly and build and maintain relationships with a variety of stakeholders, including state and federal agencies, NGOs, and academia.
  • Ability to be discrete, maintain confidentiality, and uphold any necessary security measures to protect sensitive data and information.
  • Successful history of raising funds for short and long-term initiatives. Previous experience in developing and implementing fundraising strategies at a program or organizational level is beneficial. Willingness to travel occasionally to conferences and workshops to network, and gather and share information with stakeholders.
