PROGRAM TEAM
Luis has been interested in the conservation of reptiles and amphibians from an early age. After receiving his bachelor’s degree in Wildlife Ecology and Conservation from the University of Florida, he worked on several projects at the university including a long-term field study measuring the effects of prescribed fire on herpetofauna populations. He then received his master’s degree in Wildlife, Aquatic, and Wildlands Science and Management from Texas Tech University along with a graduate certificate in GIS. Before joining ARC, he worked with the U.S. Geological Survey and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission as a Biological Scientist. During this time, he was fortunate to work with several rare and imperiled herp species including frosted flatwoods salamanders, striped newts, and gopher frogs. Luis also has a background in computer programming, and he likes using technology to help guide conservation decisions. He lives in Florida where he enjoys hiking, herping, and kayaking.
